At approximately 2318 hours, District 3 deputies responded as back-up to Daytona Beach PD units who were in pursuit of armed robbery suspects, fleeing from them in a stolen vehicle. The suspects had robbed an employee of the Mayan Inn (103 South Ocean Avenue, DB), at gunpoint, in the parking lot. As numerous other assisting agencies (VCBP, OBPD, HHPD) and Air One responded to the general area of the pursuit, District 3 units attempted to position themselves for Stop Stick deployment (authorized by Sergeant K. Peck). A D3 unit attempted to Stop Stick the vehicle in the area of Alabama Avenue/North Nova Road, but inadvertently hit the pursuing DBPD unit. The DBPD unit was able to continue the pursuit (with two tires hit) and the fleeing vehicle was successfully hit with Stop Sticks in the area of North Nova Road/Granada Boulevard. As the DBPD unit began to slow (and with Air One not yet on scene), pursuit of the vehicle was authorized for VCSO units. The vehicle was pursued by a D3 unit north to North Nova Road/N US 1, where it made a southbound turn on N US 1. It was then pursued south on N US 1 until it lost control and crashed into a power pole, just north of Granada Boulevard. There were no injuries in the crash and both occupants were taken into custody and turned over to DBPD (for numerous felony charges). The driver was additionally charged by the pursuing D3 unit with Fleeing and Eluding an LEO. OBPD handled the traffic crash investigation. Sergeant Peck is completing the supervisory paperwork (MVA, AIR). The Watch Commander (Lt. Piser) responded to the scene. DBPD Case #DB160026638/Numerous others.
