….Last week’s meeting of the Port Orange City Council to address the 2018 budget was disturbing, alarming and finally reassuring.

The proposal was 347 pages and could require a more than 8 percent property tax hike.
To my surprise, fewer than six residents not employed by the city were physically in attendance.
The issues on the budget causing controversy are complex and multifaceted, involving hiring more staff, completing more projects, purchasing more equipment and technology among many other topics.
Although most proposals seemed well thought out and would be on many peoples’ wish list, the question clearly is: Would it be fiscally responsible to approve and fund all of it right now?….
